CDPA calls for application for PhD research scholarship from the eligible candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

The NORHED Project "Policy and Governance Studies (PGS) in South Asia: Regional Master and Ph.D. Programs" (A joint research program of Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, University of Bergen (UiB), Norway, North South University (NSU), Bangladesh & University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka) financed by NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation) calls for applications from interested and competent candidates for Ph.D. scholarship at t he Central Department of Public Administration, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Policy and Governance Studies (PGS) in South Asia: Regional Master and Ph.D. Programs

Eligibility for application

Candidates must have 17 years of study preferably with M-Phil degree in Public Administration, policy and governance, and/or other related field of the social sciences

Key features

  1. Altogether 8 candidates—4 from Nepal, 2 from Bangladesh, and 2 from Sri Lanka—will be selected for the Ph.D. scholarship. Of them 50% will be female candidates from each country.
  2. The selected candidates shall enroll in the Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University, Nepal
  3. Each enrolled candidate will receive NRS 40,000/ per month as scholarship for 3 years (except 5 months during their stay at University of Bergen, Norway). From this amount the student should manage his/her monthly living expenses along with the fees to be paid to the Faculty.
  4. In addition to the monthly scholarship, each Ph.D. student will get a grant of NPR 150,000/ to cover expenses related to fieldwork, paper stationery, language editing, etc.
  5. Each Ph.D. student will be provided with a laptop computer.
  6. The foreign Ph.D. students will be provided with furnished accommodation along with return economy airfare to their respective countries.
  7. The Ph.D. candidates are required to complete 4 compulsory courses—Two at Tribhuvan University and two at University of Bergen, Norway. All Ph.D. students will spend a semester (five months) at the Department of Administration and Organization Theory, University of Bergen, Norway. Scholarships for five months (according to the Norwegian Educational Loan Fund criteria) and return airfare (economy class) will be provided.

Application should include

  1. An application with a recent photograph and an updated CV
  2. Attested copies of the previous degrees (Master and under-graduate)
  3. A Proposal for the Ph.D. research (maximum 6/7 pages or around 2000 words)
  4. Two published articles in scientific journals and/or book chapters in the relevant field
  5. Two reference letters (one from the current employer/supervisor and the other from the last academic institution attended).

Selection criteria

  1. Quality of proposal of the proposed research
  2. Other academic performance such as grades of previous degrees, publications, research works, and English proficiency certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL (if any)
  3. Oral defense of the proposal before the international selection committee

  • Final date of application: October 07, 2013
  • Oral defense will be held in the last week of October, 2013 (October 22, 2013 at NSU, Dhaka; October 29, 2013 at UoP, Kandy, and October 30, 2013 at TU, Kathmandu) Degree awarding institution: Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal
