Objectives of the Project: Governance Matters

The overall objective of the project - Governance Matters: Assessing, Diagnosing, and Addressing Challenges of Governance in Nepal is to improve the capacity for teaching and research on governance by bringing students, faculty, and academics /scholars in contact with the frontiers of research in this field. This is to be achieved through the following sub-objectives:

 

  • To establish PhD program at CDPA in order to incorporate and highlight the issue of governance in the teaching and research both in Kathmandu and Bergen.
  • To establish a data base for the analysis and diagnosis of governance by highlighting the process of policy making, policy implementation, comparative regional developmental variations and their causes. It will form the foundation for developing a teaching kit and helpful to analyses institutional performance.
  • To encourage the use of the data base for practical administrative purposes for improving the governance.
  • To encourage Norwegian master and doctoral students to participate in the courses at TU.
  • To transform CDPA into a regional hub of excellence in the study of governance and its assessment and analysis attracting students from other parts of South Asia such as Bangladesh.

Other collaborative activities

  • Establishment of network with stakeholders of governance such as NGOs, The World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, Bilateral donor agencies, government agencies.
  • Participation in international conferences such as International Political Science Association (IPSA), International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR), Network of Asia-Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG), Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA), Doctoral courses in Europe, Norway and in South Asia.
  • Dissemination of Knowledge to stakeholders of governance through seminars and reports, and notes.
  • Contacting Bureau of Statistics for data, and other data sources such as UNDP, UNICEF, The World Bank, etc.
  • Contacting Norwegian Social Science Data Service for digital mapping of Nepal and seeking assistance in the creation of a database.
  • Establishing networks with institutions of higher learning in South Asia for exchange of scholar and students, and collaborative research.
